Litecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency and open source software project released under the MIT/X11 license. It was created by Charlie Lee in October 2011. The litecoin blockchain is an alternative to Bitcoin's blockchain, with several key differences: blocks are six times as large, litecoins can be sent much faster (2.5 minutes), and litecoins have a much higher supply limit of 84 million coins versus bitcoin's 21 million coins.
